Sleeping Bear Dunes
Nestled on either side of the the Sleeping Bear Dunes are the small towns of Glen Arbor & Empire. The streets are lined with quaint shops and great restaurants. This beautiful area features the breathtaking Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore which is a 72,000-acre national park. The big water beaches are flanked by sand dunes that are 40 stories high. The 500′ point of Pyramid Point can be seen from space! The sand is perfect for for sun seekers and hikers. This area will take your breath away.
All of that activity surely makes you thirsty so why not grab a beer or a soda and burger at Art’s Tavern in Glen Arbor or Joe’s Friendly Tavern in Empire. Just west of Glen Arbor is the historic town of Glen Haven that boats historical displays, the Coast Guard museum, and a great sandy beach. In Empire, hike the Empire Bluffs trail for amazing views and have a picnic at the public beach. Make sure to take a drive through Pierce Stocking Drive a beautiful natural area for stunning views of Glen Lake and terrific hiking. When the snow arrives, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are great ways to enjoy nature. Staying at the Homestead? Downhill skiing is right out your door.
