Nestled in the heart of Glen Arbor, this charming cabin is the perfect retreat for a couple or a small group seeking both accommodation close to town and the natural beauty of plenty of trees and the Crystal River. It boasts private frontage on the Crystal River, just across from M-22, where the speed limit is 35 mph. The two-bedroom, one-bathroom home comfortably accommodates up to five guests, offering an ideal setting for a summer or fall getaway.

Outside, a spacious deck, convenient gas grill, and inviting fire pit beckon guests to relax and enjoy the serene surroundings. Exploring the nearby town of Glen Arbor reveals delightful shops, delectable dining options, and tempting ice cream parlors. For active guests, tennis courts are only a mile away, while the renowned Sleeping Bear Dunes Dune Climb is just a short four-mile drive. The area abounds with nature and wildlife, providing ample opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts.

Friendly, well-behaved dogs are more than welcome, with an additional nonrefundable cleaning fee. However, their humans are kindly asked to ensure that any outdoor messes are promptly tidied up.

Bad Mattress

The big drawback were the beds. Both very soft, even with mattress toppers. Difficult to get out of the bed and you end up in the middle while sleeping. For the heat each room has an electric heater with the control at the base board heater. The front bedroom heater is behind the bed and difficult to get to and without knob. Location is great, walking distance to the coffee shop. The kitchen is sufficient for small meals.

Great location, cottage was a little dated but we weren’t too concerned with that for our short stay.That said, the beds seemed very soft and had a sinking middle. We tried both rooms but similar issues. Other than the poor sleep, we enjoyed being close to town, sitting outside and being on the river.

Fun at Fernwood

We enjoyed our stay at Fernwood. Great location near downtown Glen Arbor and the Crystal River. Comfortable cabin for 4 adults. Kitchen was tight, but had the basics for ability to make yummy hot breakfasts. Just set smoke alarm off once, placed a fan to make sure that didn’t happen again. Beds were very comfortable. Enjoyed the fire pit twice. Had deer and a Pileated woodpecker in the yard. Appreciated the washer and dryer. Communication from Visit Up North was fantastic and very thorough! Great cabin to use as a base while enjoying this beautiful area.

This cabin is in a great location with easy access to Glen Arbor, Crystal River, Lake Michigan, Glen Lake and Sleeping Bear National Park.We were surprised to received additional pet policies, both 2 days before we arrived and again when we actually arrived. Had we received this information earlier, we would have both packed for our trip and planned our trip differently. I suggest property management disclose all policies as part of their rental agreement, or make clear that additional policies are non-binding suggestions/recommendations.

Great location, very convenient to downtown GA. Off a busy road and gettyng to the beach meant walking on this busy road. Cabin had all the essentials including washer and dryer and was comfortable but could use a little TLC. Mattresses need to be replaced. Fire pit was a bonus.

Overall, this was an excellent experience. Great location, which was everything for us. Had all of the essentials for a family vacation. Negatives noted below are more of a note to potential renters than complaints. We had two adults, a toddler and a 6 month old. Any more, and I don’t think the cabin would have been big enough. Beds were not great- way too soft. No air conditioner which didn’t affect us as the weather was beautiful. Exterior is very sandy so it was brought into cabin easily making it difficult to keep floors clean.

Cozy cabin for a week of hiking

This is our second year staying here. The cabin provided everything we needed for the week. Centrally located in the Sleep Bear Dunes, it allowed easy axis to all the hiking trails. We also enjoyed the short 5 minute walk to Glen Arbor for dinner, wine tasting or a quick trip to the grocery store. Many evenings we walked to Lake Michigan to enjoy the incredible sunsets. Minimum Roku live tv, but Net Flix is provided.

It is deep, mucky, and lots of downed trees. We were able to play in it down the street though. Lots of nice beaches nearby as well.

Fernwood was a great spot for our August vacation. Walkable to everything in downtown Glen Arbor and an easy drive to all the great things in the area. The cottage is not fancy but had everything we needed. We were disappointed that the advertised canoe was not usable and there was no kayak.

Generally good. The management company was a disappointment. The property listing stated there was a kayak, but no kayak was there. The canoe was adequate but had minor damage due to age. This is our seventh year staying at Fernwood and is always we had a great time. The cabin is perfect for two and could easily accommodate two more. The only complaint we have as in the past is the lack of screens in the windows in the back bedroom. In a cabin with no AC it will be nice to be able to open all the windows to get a Crossbreeze. Other than that we have absolutely no complaints with Fernwood.

We love this place! SO close to town, everything you need. This was our 2nd stay here. It's not fancy, but it's perfect for an up north weekend. We love having the personal fire pit. TV and cable nice for the rainy days and quiet nights. Also, loved that this location is pet friendly. We were able to bring our dog this time and he loved it too! We're already planning our trip for next year!

We really liked our stay in the Fernwood cottage. It was cute and clean and very close to everything we wanted to do for our vacation in Glenn Arbor. We could walk into town to restaurants, grocery, and shopping. We easily hopped on our bikes to the Sleeping Bear Heritage trail. The trail runs from Empire to Leland. There is a kayak available, and a place across the street that will take you up river and drop you off, then you can lazily kayak right back to the cottage. The Sleeping Bear Dune National Park and many beaches are a short drive away. The Fernwood has two cheerfully painted bedrooms with cute quilts. An open floor plan w/small kitchen, a eating area and living room w/cable TV, Laundry room which we ended up needing, and a small but clean bathroom. For my wife and I plus our senior pup it was perfect. Good size deck, gas grill and fire pit which we used nightly. We would like to stay here again in the future.

I think this house is a good value. Any more than two people would be cramp, but that is being a little high maintenance. If you have a family of four (2 smaller children), then this house would be perfect. Especially if you've been wanting to experience sleeping bear dunes and have found all other lodging to be too expensive. This rental also includes kayaks, which I read after we rented two. :) That's a good value bc kayaking the crystal river is a must. also, this rental is in walking distance to town and the beach. I loved how I felt like a local for a little bit. This was my second time staying here. Would stay here again.

Delightful short getaway

We had just four nights at the cabin but wished we could have stayed longer. It was a great location--at the edge of the Glen Arbor "main street" so we could walk to the grocery store or to restaurants and bars. An easy drive over to Sleeping Bear Dunes for hiking and sightseeing. We used the grill one night which worked great, but we didn't get around to trying the fire pit. We took a day trip to Traverse City too. It was too cold to use the canoe while we were there, so we'll have to plan a return trip!

Weekend get away

Cabin was small but worked well for our group of 3 adults 2 children and a dog. Patio was a great area for the kids to play and the dog to be outside. Kitchen had all of the supplies that we needed. Cabin was very clean and area was quiet except for an occasional car on the road. the Beds were small and could use a pillow top cover to help with the hardness. Enjoyed walking downtown and shopping.

A little adventure

This was our second stay in a month. We loved the first time around we quickly came back. Actually it was a vacation redo because I was sick. But would not have gone anywhere else. This little escape is very clean and cozy, close enough to everything. After a long day of playing and hiking it was great to come "home" and relax. Our four legged family member also thank you for the hospitality. We look forward to next season.

Our stay was great again for our second year in a row. The location is perfect on the edge of town for convenience and yet just secluded enough. Last year we did notice a dvd player and planned ahead by bringing movies for any rainy days or nights. We were a bit disappointed the player was absent even after we checked online to confirm they still had one and it said the rental did. This was a small upset that did not ruin our vacation in any way. The place was clean and provided us with all we needed for a relaxing vacation. I hope to make a third trip to the same location next year!

Successful Adventure

Once we got used to the finding of how close the property is to hwy 22, we began to relax. That was a bit of a suprise. The rental was very clean and cosy. The temps got chilly at night but the heaters worked great. The convenience of its location to downtown, the lake shore and Sleeping Bear Dunes was perfect. Highly, highly recommend staying here and already planning our next adventure at the Fernwood. Oh, and can't wait to eat st Mary's Tavern again. Yummm....

Great stay at Fernwood

We have stayed at Fernwood every year since 2012. We absolutely love this cabin and we'll definitely return again. It is perfect for two people. We love the grill and outdid firepit. The appliances all work well and we really appreciate the wi-fi. It is walking distance to the shops and restaurants and, most importantly, the lake! Our favorite is Arts Tavern and the Foothills for breakfast. We really enjoy touring all of the wineries in the peninsula. The only complaint we continue to have is the lack of screens in the back bedroom. And the Windows don't even open. In a cabin such as this with no air conditioning we think it is very important to have Windows that open so there can be a breeze in the cabin. Other than that we have no complaints at all. We would recommend this cabin. And the Visit Up North folks are great v

The house is cozy and well maintained. It was closer to the busy road than we expected, but there is a large area outside where our children (aged 9, 8, and 2) played that is a safe distance away from M22. Access to the river is across the street, which was a bummer but it was still easy to get to and we enjoyed the proximity to it. The house provided a canoe, kayak and life jackets. The house was clean and easy to relax in. Love the location, it's very close to town and we walked there most times. There was ample supplies provided (soaps, propane, kitchen accesories, linens/towels etc) and a lot of what we brought from home we didn't use. Our kids LOVED it. They kept asking if we could live there all the time. We would recommend to anyone and we would go back.

Very easy to find the location and enter. The house is a great size for a couple or small family. Applicances all worked well. House was a little stuffy, but very easy to air out. Location is perfect for access to out door adventures. Everything you need for your stay is within walking distance. The provided canoe seats 3 easily and is in very good shape.

Our stay was mid-Oct.. The river is across the street & apparently they had one heck of a storm in Aug. of this year. Trees were down in the river at our location so fishing really wasn't an option there. Enjoyed our drive around the area to sightsee & meals in town. A great stay in Glen Arbor

We stay at Frenwood every year and always enjoy the experience. The storm damage was visible around town and also at our cabin. We miss the big tree at the road that provided great shade! We would absolutely recommend this cabin to others.Two small areas of concern: the dimmer switch for the light over the dining table doesn't work. The light comes on but does not dim. The light is very bright for activities at the table other than eating. The bathroom could use a night light, it is very dark at night in Glen Arbor and it is hard to find the bathroom from the back bedroom.We do note that the screens in the back bedroom are missing. We assume this is due to damage from the recent heavy storms and are certainly understanding of the time and effort it takes to replace such things. We do feel strongly that screens are needed on those windows since the cabin does not have air conditioning and open windows are critical for cross ventilation in the cabin.

Quick Weekend Up North

We rented Fernwood for a long weekend in September. The location was very close to town, about a 5 min walk to Leelanau Coffee. The house was close to the road, with a good amount of traffic driving by all day. This was not a problem for us but a family with small kids might feel otherwise. There were some serious storms in the area a few weeks prior to our arrival and the rental company called and told us there would be crews out cleaning up the property while we were there. The house is small but clean, it was just 2 of us so the size was fine but I think it would become crowded very quickly with more than 2 adults. The house came with a canoe on the river which we did not use but it was a nice extra. The listing stated no AC which I must have overlooked. Even with the windows open and the provided fans on, it was hot!

We enjoyed having a canoe across the road to paddled along the Crystal River, it was beautiful! It would be hard to find a rental this budget-friendly and this close to town.We will be renting this cabin again next year.

We had a great time at Fernwood in Glen Arbor. We really appreciate the upgrades this year, particularly the flat screen! And having Wi-Fi in the cabin is also a bonus. The cabin is close to all of fun in Glen Arbor and Lake Michigan and a beautiful drive to such other places as Leland, Suttons Bay and the Old Mission Peninsula. We will definitely return to Fernwood again next year.

The Hubs would like the canon to have a flat screen TV. I'm just happy to have with-fi. Water pressure could have been a bit better, other than that we have no complaints. We plan to rent Fernwood again next year. It's the perfect size for two.

this was perfect for our first visit to glen arbor. it was just me and my mom, so we both had our own bedrooms (which is a must)! this is a cabin on main road. there was some road noise, but we expected that and it calms down at night. the cabin is smaller and more rustic, which we expected that as well. the price was right. the cabin was in walking distance to everything. i'm a running and biking, so in the mornings, i could go right out the front door and start my workout.

Closer to the road than we thought. There was no propane in the gas grill and we didn't think we should have to pay for a full tank to grill once. The outside needed a little maintenance, inside was clean and nice, but nowhere to put food - need some shelving added. It was nice, but we have stayed in nicer in Glen Arbor for the same price.

Location was amazing! Rental company worked with us in troubleshooting a smell from the well. We were the first renters of the season and the well sitting unused apparently can create a strong odor. it was just one day and they were very, very helpful and responsive to our concerns of an ongoing odor. after running the water for the 45 minutes the odor was gone and did not return. The rental company also did a follow-up call the next morning to make sure all was OK with the property. Quaint cottage and even though it was on the main road (M22) through town, the traffic was not very noticeable once in the cabin. Great place to stay if you have pets or want to be close to town.
