Viewtopia is your dream vacation getaway, situated high on a wooded bluff with sweeping, uninterrupted sunset water views of Lake Michigan, the Manitou and Fox Islands, Whaleback and Pyramid Points. Reminiscent of a National Park lodge, relax in the hot tub of this majestic log home after a day spent enjoying activites and outdoor natural beauty. Nearby Good Harbor Beach in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park offers swimming and combing the sandy beach for rocks and shells. Your water activity dreams will come true with nearby rentals of paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, boats, other water equipment, and bicycles. Charter fish in Lake Michigan for salmon, lake trout, and white fish or take the ferry out to visit one of the islands in the National Park. Plentiful hiking and biking trails are available throughout the area. Leland, Glen Arbor, Suttons Bay, and Traverse City are within an easy drive and offer upscale resort shopping, art, music and film festivals, dining, casinos, golf and mini-golf. Wineries and breweries abound with available tours as well as plays and concerts in Traverse City and Interlochen Music School. Local restaurants feature live music if you prefer your concerts while dining.
With large view windows and skylights, you will be warmly welcomed with bright interiors in this four-bedroom home upon entry. Happy cooks will love preparing grand meals and picnic lunches in the sophisticated and fully equipped kitchen with plentiful prep space, stainless steel and gas appliances, and a full dining room. Grill provides the perfect outdoor opportunity for meals on the multiple decks, equipped with 2 picnic tables, Adirondack chairs, and 4 reclining spa loungers. Relax with a good book near the large stone wood-burning fireplace, curl up on the comfortable furniture while hosting movie marathons or sports games on the large screen TV. We enjoyed our week staying in Viewtopia! My family of six adults had plenty of room inside and outside to play board games, read, eat, relax, and sleep. The house had comfortable seating inside and outside. The house is located within a short drive to Sleeping Bear dunes, a beach, Glen Arbor, and Suttons Bay. We would stay here again.

We had a wonderful experience at Viewtopia in August. Although we only had 3 adults, the home is large enough to accommodate many more, with three twin beds, two queens and a king on the second floor.One of our party is an avid runner and enjoyed long runs along the nearby vineyard roads. We were not far from Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes and spend a wonderful day hiking along the lake and on the dunes.

This is a beautiful home with great views over the lake. The inside of the home was very clean and comfortable. I was in a group of 4 couples that stayed there for a long weekend and went to several wineries. The outside of the house is due for some landscape work and step maintenance. I spent the first 30 minutes sweeping down spider webs on the outside of the house. Otherwise, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We had an amazing time. We loved the views and the secluded setting of the house. Everything in the house was clean and nicely set up for us. A few wasps did come into the one upstairs bedroom, so checking for those would be a good idea. Other than that we loved our stay and cannot wait to go back.

11 of us (4 adults, 6 kids 5-12 and one baby) stayed at Viewtopia for a week and had a great time exploring the region. The house worked great for our needs, and hosts were responsive to any questions or minor issues that came up. We would definitely stay again! It isn't lake front, but there are nice views, especially from the upstairs bedroom- and the lot is very private- it truly feels like a cottage. It is a short drive to a pretty sandy beach and a couple of hikes. Sleeping bear and Traverse city are each about 20-25 minutes away.

We held our annually Fantasy Football draft in this home and it was incredible. Our group of friends is from all across the US so this day is highly anticipated all year long. This was a perfect location to get away, play golf, enjoy the North and begin our Fantasy Football season. Amazing home.

We loved hosting our family reunion at this house. It was cozy and the views were spectacular. It made for a fantastic weekend. A couple of things weren’t ideal (the two steps leading down to the grill came dislodged which made stepping down hazardous), and regulating the temperature was a bit difficult), but we would certainly return to the place.

Beautiful, comfortable, and well appointed home. Unfortunately, for a property billed as “Viewtopia”, many of the views were hampered by overgrown trees between the home and lake. We were traveling with parents in their 80’s. Railings and hand holds were lacking along the main entrance and in the one piece shower stalls (we went to a Traverse City hardware store to buy some suction cup handholds and bath mat to make it safer). The many stairs and level changes in the home were dangerous for our older travelers (3 sets of stairs between garage and top floor sleeping area). The driveway is especially steep and long and overgrown. It’s likely to be an issue in the rain and snow, but really didn’t negatively impact us. The location is very good, but remote. The many light switches were confusing. The 42 inch main tv and limited cable package were disappointing for a premium property. Doubt we’ll stay here again, but younger travelers might find it “way cool”.

Viewtopia does sit on a high hill on a wooded lot. We have not found it to be overgrown just that it is in the woods. The view is of Lake Michigan and really cannot have a total unblocked view as much of the trees are on other peoples property. There still is a lovely lake view. This home is advertised as a multi level home. We will mention the limited cable to the owners.Summer Stay

The consensus of our extended family was that the house fit our needs and we enjoyed the log home uniqueness of it. The gathering rooms were large and the grandsons loved the foosball table and hot tub. The view is great in spots, but is in danger of growing trees,etc, infringing on the views.The charcoal grills had not been cleaned and were located in a weedy spot, so we did not do outdoor grilling.

Took a quick visit to MI with three families. Home was lovely, view incredible, and the location is great. We really just wished we had a few more days to explore more of the beautiful Lake Michigan coast and towns. If I were to make any suggestion it would be to trim back some of plant/sprouting tree growth around the property to maximize the views even more. I made one call to the rental company and couldn't be more impressed with their professionalism. We would love to return to Viewtopia!

This log home is beautiful with plenty of room Kitchen is large, bedrooms are roomy, and the deck space around the home is excellent. Great for BBQ, laying out, partying. But the best is the view and sunsets over Lake Michigan and North Manitou Island. This rivals beachfront settings in Hawaii.

Yes, it's called Viewtopia so you figure it must have a good view but let me tell you, no photo can truly capture the panoramic beauty that is yours at sunset!!! The view stretches from Pyramid Point in the south to Whaleback in the north taking in both north and south Manitou islands. The home is amazing with views from every window and a hot tub on the hill!!!

This house is just a sensational get a way. There were 7 adults and 4 children in our party and this house had plenty of room and then some. We loved the kitchen with wonderful appliances, the beautiful bedrooms and baths, and the views. I can't say enough about the view of Lake Michigan and the sunsets. The hot tub was clean and the decks wrapped around. We never had to turn on the air conditioning because the air off of the lake was wonderful. This house is close to Leland- a charming little town. Traverse City was about 30 minutes away. Sleeping Bear sand dunes were about 25 minutes away. I'd go back in a heartbeat. Thank you to the owners who don't mind sharing paradise. I also want to thank the Visit Up North Vacation Rentals staff who really came through for us when the previous rental we had booked flooded out a week before our arrival. You saved the day! (or should I say week)

We stayed at the cabin with 11 adults and had a great time. There is a lot of space for socializing indoors as well as on one of the (3) large deck outdoors. Sleeping (11) adults was capacity for the cabin, but it was still comfortable. The hot tub was clean and was well located. My only critiques would be that the landscaping around the cabin could use a little TLC, new pots and pans are needed, there is really not a useable yard, and if they would like us to remove all recycling, provide better directions to the recycling location. All in all though, we would absolutely stay here again!

Property was amazing. Beautiful log cabin with a great view of lake Michigan. Slept seven guests (plus one child) very comfortably. We only had one issue: There were wasps (2 to 3 every day) getting into the upper bedroom over the garage. We secured all doors and windows, but they still got in. Maybe through the wood?

Viewtopia is a great house in a great location. Lots of interior and exterior space. The kids room (bunk beds) was a big hit. Drawbacks were a dirty hot tub and wifi that didn't work. The view from the main deck outside the living room would be significantly enhanced if the shrubs and trees were trimmed to provide a better view when sitting. All in all, we'd go back.

Wonderful week with friends at this beautiful property with an amazing view of Lake Michigan. The location provides a convenient hub for touring the wine country, visiting Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, and partaking of some of the many fine locavore restaurants in the area. That's if you can pull yourself away from the view from the deck and comfy overstuffed chairs in the living room.We brought our own coffee maker due to other reviews, but found theirs also worked fine. Repairing the sliding screen door on the upstairs master, and some additional kitchen provisions, including a baking sheet, serving platter, steak knives, and a second casserole dish would make the stay even more enjoyable.The folks at Visit Up North Rentals were very friendly, welcoming, and helpful, inviting us to call with any concerns or questions. This place was great. Very log cabin, retreat type experience for our group of 8 girls. We had a great time, beautiful views over the lake, a little difficult to find driving in but the drive uphill is beautiful. Property itself is clean, needs some minor updating. We had issues with bees coming into one of the bedrooms, and coffeemaker wasn't working. Lots of bugs to be expected in the woods, so just come with the bug sprays! Beautiful woods and views would definitely stay again.

Viewtopia is amazing! This is the second year now that we have stayed here for our annual wine weekend We had a wonderful time..the house is perfect for us and this year the weather was great.We tasted wine, had a great time at the Asparagus festival in Empire, saw the dunes and ordered pizza from ****'s Pour was so good! Thanks for getting the hot tub ready was awesome. We plan to make this a yearly stay in the middle of May..a great way to start the summer!!! Thanks Up North vacation rentals you are wonderful to work with in setting up our annual wine weekend!!

Beautiful views and property. Overall we loved our stay! A few suggestions: The coffeemaker took at least 30 minutes to brew a pot which was frustrating for 8 adults wanting their morning coffee. Also, I'd recommend more comfortable and more seating in the living room. Considering the house sleeps at least 8 there should be seating for 8 in the living room...maybe a sectional? The couch (which used to be futon) wasn't comfortable at all.

Thank you for staying at Viewtopia. We will share you concerns with our owner. We do find that with the hard water in our area coffee pots tend to get mineral deposits. As these things can sneak up on us, we leave vinegar under the cupboard just in case a guest wants to run through. As well,we clean our coffee pots periodically with vinegar to remove minerals.Fabulous!

I cannot express how happy I am that we found this home for our family vacation. Having never been to the area at all but falling in love with in just a few days, this home was the perfect place to return to after a day of exploring the wineries, biking, kayaking, swimming and shopping. The hot tub is perfectly situated in the wooded surroundings,and the views of Lake Michigan are breathtaking. The sunsets alone will make you wish you could live here all summer long. The place was clean, included plenty of amenities, provided information on the area, and for a rental home the most stocked kitchen for equipment, dishes etc. I have ever encountered. For kids room includes a huge collection of disney movies, an immediate hit with my son. The location is close to Leland, Glen Arbor, and plenty of wineries (my personal favorite activity!). My one and only negative was the comfort level of the bed in the 3rd bedroom which is essentially a futon. If you like a hard mattress, it's probably more of a selling point! Basically, you would be crazy not to stay here. We will definitely be returning.

I believe this is possibly the best rental property in the area. The kitchen was amply stocked with everything any homeowner requires for meal preparation and the beds and bedding were very comfortable. The property is in exceptional shape! It's clear the owners view this as a home to be enjoyed without inconveniencing their guests with minor annoyances an omissions. The house was thoughtfully supplied with everything one needs to settle in very quickly. Exceptional views of Lake Michigan from the decks and the hot tub!

Home was ideal for our family of 11-great location & view. Gorgeous sunsets!! Up North staff was very professional and responsive to our issues that came up. Nice linens and towels and outdoor dining options for the group. Could use more deck chairs and a larger, FASTER brewing coffeepot. View would be improved if shrubs and trees could be trimmed and the home should have a "deep cleaning" at least quarterly, if not monthly, during the summer season. Definitely would recommend to anyone with a larger group and we would come back again.

We stayed at viewtopia for a week for my daughter's wedding. The house was just perfect for us - roomy with enough bedrooms and bathrooms. I just wish there were better comforters for the beds and also more towels since we had to do a load almost everyday. Having said that, you can't beat the location and spaciousness of the house and the management company was very accommodating - will definitely return ...

Viewtopia is a beautiful home with a wonderful view of Lake Michigan. There were two drawbacks for us however. The house has many more steps than we had realized, both inside and outside on the decks. For a family of older children and adults, this would not be a problem. We had little ones and all the steps were a constant concern. The kitchen was lovely but a little short on cooking equipment. Also, once in the house, the driveway is extremely steep and the roadway has no walking paths so one must take a car everywhere. The property management company was a delight to work with and quickly responsive to a call about a wasp's nest outside.

We were very pleased with Viewtopia. The location was very central to towns and shopping ( Leland, Fishtown, Suttons Bay, etc). The drive to the beach and Sleeping Bear Dunes was short. Views were beautiful.The rooms were great! I have just 1 constructive suggestion.The propane tank was empty when we started to grill dinner our first night. I called and was told that the tank was the renters responsibility.Having just arrived, I had no idea where to exchange the tank! I personally feel that the tank should have been checked and ready for the new quest and I would be OK if the rental was adjusted to reflect that policy.I would certainly vacation at Viewtopia again.

We just returned home from a wonderful stay at Viewtopia! The home is beautiful with fantastic views of the lake from almost every room. My husband took a series of photos of the amazing sunsets from the deck.The home is very spacious. Plenty of room and privacy for a large group.It is a short drive into Leland, Sutton's Bay and the Sleeping Bear Dunes park. The only thing that could be slightly improved upon was how the kitchen was equipped with pans and other small cooking utensils. If you plan to do any cooking, you should bring whatever pots and pans you may need. A laundry basket on the premises would also be a good thing to have around since the laundry is located on the walkout level.Bottom line ... you should be very pleased with this property. You won't find a better place to kick back and relax! We can't wait to go back!

Viewtopia is an incredible property was stunning views of Lake Michigan from almost every room in the house! We recently rented this house for a couples (4) getaway wine weekend. We appreciated the close proximity to downtown Leland and many wineries in the Leelanau peninsula. Unfortunately there were some key essentials missing from the property such as salt/pepper, dish soap and a wine opener. Other than the missing items we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend Viewtopia to anyone looking for a place to fit a large group with stunning views of the lake. The place is beautiful and comfortable. The photographs on the website do not do justice to the views of the home, especially during the fall color season. I only have two constructive criticisms. First, it would be wonderful to have larger beds. It can be tough moving from a King size bed at home to a Queen/Full on vacation, and the rooms certainly could fit larger beds. Second, the rug in the living room sheds. This is kind of annoying if you have kids who like to play on the ground. But these are minor issues on an otherwise beautiful home, that is in great condition, and easily housed our 9-person family for a four day weekend.

We absolutely loved the home. We enjoyed looking out all of the windows and sitting on all of the decks of the three bedrooms. We were able to watch a great storm from the "upper deck." We had plenty of room to spread out, and thoroughly enjoyed dinners all together at the big dining room table. We would have liked to have had equipment for the grill, and struggled a bit with taking the garbage down to the end of the road. We also had to get propane for the grill, as we thought it was very low and did not want to run out during a grilling. Probably should let guests know that they need to bring garbage bags. These were little things that did not interfere with us really enjoying the great views and the wonderful space in the cottage. Thanks!!!!
