This unique and stunning, two-story architectural gem was designed to take full advantage of the natural setting on West Grand Traverse Bay. It has been featured in numerous design magazines and on HGTV. The spacious accommodations offer stunning bay views from almost every point in the house.

The huge great room has 20-foot glass floor-to-ceiling water views! It’s like being in a terrarium. Large, open fireplace. Huge 4K HD flat screen TV with surround sound.

The kitchen is state of the art with black granite countertops. Equipped with a steam oven (perfect for fish and veggies) and Sub-zero refrigerator/freezer drawers. Hardwood floors throughout with radiant heat. This modern built home offers thick concrete walls that keep the inside comfortable. You will want to explore every inch of this ultra cool house.

Spa bathroom is located off the main level and features a two-person Jacuzzi Japanese hammered metal soaking tub and a very spacious shower/steam room. Perfect after a day of biking on the TART trail, kayaking from the shore, or visiting the many nearby wineries and restaurants. Relax with a glass of wine next to the fireplace which extends through to the soaking tub. Stereo system and WIFI.

A California king platform bed lies under a high, curved, wood ceiling upstairs. This bed was designed to easily roll out onto the screened-in porch. (Winner of the Architectural Detail of the Year Award.) Let the sound of the waves lull you to sleep in the cool night air. Off the bedroom, is a Precore Elliptical exerciser and large balcony for relaxing with that morning cup of coffee. Bathroom/shower and washer/dryer upstairs as well.

Outdoors, enjoy the deck for gas grilling. Walk down to the water’s edge where a screened gazebo provides the perfect setting to watch the spectacular moonrise over the bay. There is also seating at the shoreline. Two kayaks are included with life jackets. The bay faces east and offers beautiful sunrise and moonrise views. Grass goes to the shoreline. Need something special for your stay? Feel free to ask and if we can arrange it we will. Neighbor has three friendly dogs that may greet you on your arrival.

Centrally located a mere 8 minutes north of downtown Traverse City and 8 minutes south of Suttons Bay in the heart of the Leelanau Peninsula wine country. Shady Lane, Mawby, Ciccone, and Black Star Farms are just a few of the vineyards that are minutes away. The Hop Lot Brewery is just up the road. You will not be disappointed when you visit up north.

No pets allowed. NOT suitable for children.

Incredible Place!

My wife and I stayed at the Villa on the Bay for 3 nights following our wedding last month and it was a dream. The home is beautiful mid-century modern architecture and the perfect size for a romantic getaway. The floor to ceiling windows and balconies perfectly accentuate the beautiful Lake Michigan surroundings. The Japanese soaking tub and both showers are amazing. Super comfortable king bed that rolls out onto a screened in patio. And the place is just a short drive to Sutton's Bay and Traverse City. Absolutely worth the price and would love to stay again.

Peaceful Getaway

What a lovely place to stay! We really enjoyed the beautiful and well designed house. This rental is a guest house, tucked away and private. The view of the bay was awesome from just about everywhere in the house. The kitchen is small and well appointed, we made breakfast in. Great comfortable spaces to read, nap or watch tv. We were in TC during some warmer days, this house does not have A/C, as listed, but slider doors and windows (all screened) can stay open to cool the house down nicely. We absolutely loved sleeping on the porch - moving bed is super easy to do. Only downside to this house is the mattress is rather firm!

We very much enjoyed our stay at this quirky, but very nice home on the bay. It was quite warm but the lack of air conditioning was never an issue because there was always a nice breeze coming from the water. The location is quite central to Traverse City or up north to a quieter, calmer Sutton’s Bay or further north. For most of our lunches and dinners out, we were never more than 10 minutes to a good restaurant. An interesting nuisance is that people up north just seem to tolerate the gnats that are always present in restaurants. (We don’t miss them back home). Since we have a Control 4 home system we had no learning curve for operating the electronics which is all first rate. The stereo system is built with high-end pieces and the choices of available music was unlimited. As an aside, no need to bring a book with you to read, there are hundreds of hardcover books waiting for you. There’s really not much time to read though as there is plenty to see and do in the area. This was a nice home. It would be nice to see more of the water but that would entail removing a 30 year old maple. The owners are next door but we never interacted with them other than seeing them call in the dogs that freely roam the joined properties. The parking was unclear. Maybe clearly mark where to park because it felt like one was blocking the garage entry. The many custom political signs posted by the owners along the highway made it difficult to escape the highly charged political climate of this swing state. We wanted to escape all of that and just be on vacation. The steam sauna was great. The bathrooms are dark with mirrors that are impossibly placed. Plugging in a hair-dryer on the wet bathroom floors seemed unwise. It was a neat house. Well equipped. Different. Unusual. Glad we got to try it. The management company was super-easy to work with and communicated clearly. We’ll be looking around for other Up North properties to try in the fu

Though a little quirky, the house was a fabulous place to stay. The management company was attentive. Some things to know. The owners lives next door and are not a bother and super nice folks. The appliances are unique...there is no full size refrigerator...instead several under counter drawers.... There is an instruction book on how to use all the cool and unique features of the house...read it and use them...they make the stay. We thoroughly enjoyed the property once we figured it out. We would/ will visit it again.

We loved this home. It is completely unique with special features that can only be custom made. Nothing in the home feels conventional or bland. You have access to the bay for swimming and kayaking. The garden is beautiful. The living room and kitchen area creates a sense of open space and sunlight. Upstairs, the roll-out bed allows you to sleep on the screened sleeping porch. The steam room and shower are awesome. Hosts next door are friendly and helpful.

Couple Retreat

Review date: 2024-06-08

Review by David R.
This is a very unique stay, a nice place for a couples retreat. It has several distinctive features, including a bed that rolls out onto a screened-in porch, a soaking tub, and a steam room. Great big windows and huge electric screens that allow you to keep the big siding door open. No AC. The place is in a good location, just 10 min north of Traverse City, and it is right on the water. Only thing to know is that the owner's house is very near, and the yard is shared. So the place has a private yard and waterfront, but it's shared with the house right next door. We really enjoyed our stay. Would recommend.

Get to know Michigan by the lake front (literally)

Review date: 2023-09-25

Review by April I.
My wife and I enjoy our experience by the Lake Michigan staying at Michael' magic property built very close to the water edge. Moving the rolling California king size bed out to the screen terrace, sleeping breathing clean, fresh air, listening to the tide so close. Then, on the first floor we enjoyed the lake view from the inside of the house, for which this property was specially designed: to have a close and open view with great comfort. Lastly we enjoyed also the hot tub and the steamed room. Most places for breakfast, lunch or dinner are only 15 minutes afar. The dunes and other parks are also very close. Music (the quality of the sound and variety) in the house was excellent (we love music). Few details typical of a house: bring some silverware, you might need to buy extra ice. Hope you enjoy your stay, specially if it's only 2 adults looking for a relaxing and romantic long, long, long weekend.

Enjoyed the architecture and slick decor- modern but with plenty of wood to warm up environment. Full views of Traverse Bay through huge windows. Enjoyable uncommon features such as bed on track to enjoy indoor or screened in porch outdoor sleeping, steamroom, and a life time collection of movies etc.Perfectly ticks all expected boxes (clean, comfortable, etc. ) but incorporates unexpected (good) surprises.) Would highly recommend.

This place has thought of everything to make you relax and enjoy an escape. The water location, the cleanliness, the floor to ceiling windows, the Crate and Barrel dishes, the incredible architectural statement and designs--it all equals a perfect escape. Remember to bring your own shampoo, etc--but you will love this place and shed a tear when it's time to depart. We loved the location, away from the touristy TC Bay area and the quite lovely setting is perfection. What a GEM of a rental! We felt priviledged to be there!

I cannot say enough good things about our stay at The Villa on the Bay! The home is incredibly beautiful and thoughtfully designed -- if you love natural light, you will love this place. From the mini skylights above the staircase that send out prisms of light throughout the day to the showstopper floor to ceiling windows that look out on to Traverse Bay, we spent lots of time gazing outward at the beautiful views. This home also offers many wonderful amenities, including a large stainless steel bath, screened in porch with roll out bed(!), a great collection of books and music, and kayaks to enjoy sunrise on the bay. The owners live next door and were wonderful hosts -- we wish we were their neighbors! You can't go wrong by booking a stay in this home. We very much look forward to our next visit!

I was looking for something very special in Leelanau County when I selected this property. It did not disappoint. The design of the house is extraordinary. Very reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright in the use of natural materials with the windows making the natural environment part of the house. The interior elements were as described and well maintained. The property outside was spacious and well maintained.

Beautifully designed home on the lake! We were there for our honeymoon and we couldn't have picked a better home to spend time in. The views and the pull out bed were perfect to decompress from a hectic wedding weekend. Everything in this house is so well thought out and being an engineer, I could appreciate all the technology and planning that went into so many of the little details. This house was amazing. It’s a huge amount of space for 2 people. The main floor is a wide open floor plan w a fantastic kitchen a fireplace to sit around and a tv to relax at. All while providing wall to wall floor to ceiling views of the gorgeous yard and the lake beyond. The curved staircase brings u a short ways up to the most amazing bathroom I’ve ever seen. The 2 person bath tub built into the stairs has to b seen to be believed. The steam shower is enormous. Up the rest of the stair case the 2nd floor also has a wall of windows. Another full bathroom. And the most amazing feature is the bed that rolls out to the screened in porch. We slept outside each night and loved hearing the waves and enjoying the bug free fresh air. The whole length of the upstairs is balcony and we loved the views. Back downstairs the patio which was a pleasure to relax on leads out to the perfectly maintained yard and you can enjoy the water front at the picnic table or in the gazebo. The architecture of this place is outta this world. - Not to mention town w great restaurants is 10/15mins away. And wineries and breweries are as close as 1 mile away. Don’t hesitate. Book this house. I can’t wait to return!

This was a really perfect spot for a quiet retreat to get away from the city. The house is beautiful and has a really intriguing layout, as well as elegant furnishings. This is one of the few places I've ever visited where it was just as nice to stay in as to go out (we watched a million movies, had fires, enjoyed the cozy fall nights). Despite that it's getting cold out, I even managed to dip myself in the lake one day -- and can only imagine how great this must be in the summer. When we did venture out: We enjoyed biking from Suttons Bay to Traverse City (we drove the 5 minutes north to SB and rented bikes there), seeing the leaves changing color along the bike trail. Lots of restaurants in TC and SB, pretty much all were great so far.

Exquisite Design / Fabulous Stay

Review by Robert F.
My wife and I booked the Villa for one week to vacation in Michigan, September 22nd through 29th, to get away and celebrate our anniversary. First of all the online pictures look awesome but really do not do the property complete justice. The villa is very spacious with plenty of room for two people but beyond general comfort the design and styling will make you feel like stepping into a Frank Lloyd Wright, minimalistic modern dwelling. I don’t even know what that means but it’s not easy to describe such a unique home. Natural wood tones throughout complimented by darker furnishings and black working surfaces creates a calm and relaxing atmosphere. Dual Bang & Olufsen sound systems with speakers in every room including the incredible steam shower with a supplied stock of maybe 500+ cd’s so you can fill every corner of the house with studio quality music. Huge west facing wall of windows, with powered sun shades, make for an unobstructed view of the grand bay and let the natural light just pour into the villa, same for the bedroom upstairs just the windows are slightly shorter at about 8 feet tall. Yes the master bed is on a track system so it can be wheeled out onto the screened in portico and yes you will want to take advantage of this distinctive feature even when the nighttime temp dips into the upper 40’s. So light a big fire in the double sided fireplace and head to the steam shower that is big enough to qualify as a Manhattan micro apartment. 30 minutes in a 130 degree steam soaker with huge rainfall showerhead relaxes and rejuvenates before chilling with some vino to watch an evening movie, again the house supply of several hundred to pick from. Overall the property is well kept outside and in plus it is quiet. The owners, Mike and Amy, live next door so you will probably come across them a couple times as well as their small dogs but there is absolutely no intrusion on your private time. My wife texted any questions a

An unbelievable home in a perfect location. Home is a work of art, and beautifully situated on the shores of the west bay. Beautiful sunrises and spectacular nights sleeping outside in the screened in porch. You will find yourself looking forward to sipping coffee and watching the morning parade of geese, ducks and other waterfowl past the house. A perfect place to stay for excursions to nearby attractions such as, Sleeping Bear Dunes, numerous vineyards, Traverse City, and quaint little towns like Leland, Northport, Sutton's Bay and Glen Arbor. The house was clean and well maintained, and has many high tech features but you get used to them quickly and then make you wonder why your home is not the same way. Loved the modern kitchen features, and never found time to use the TV, stereo or DVD player, as you never want to stop looking at the beautiful views of the bay, and to be able to just relax with your toes in the water. The house shares the driveway with the owners' home next door. While this thought may uncomfortable for some, and I was one of those, it was a non-issue. In all the time we spent in the house, yard or by the water, we never saw them. But when our paths crossed (shared driveway) I made a point of meeting the owners, and they are truly lovely people who did everything they could to make us warm and welcomed in their vacation home. And in fact was very re-assuring to having them next door, knowing that if there was any issue with the house, that help was right there. We are very much looking forward to staying here again soon, and would recommend staying here to anyone wanting a dream vacation in the Grand Traverse area.

Beautiful home and property right on the lake. The owner (who lives next door) was very helpful and attentive, and gave us a tour upon our arrival. It is located near many attractions and easy to get to restaurants, grocery store, hiking/biking trails, and to downtown Traverse City, Suttons Bay, and other surrounding towns. It is a great property, very peaceful surroundings, and we had an overall enjoyable stay.

The owners were wonderful! They had local snacks and Champagne for us as it was our 1 year wedding anniversary. The house has a ton of impressive electronics and they even have a book to explain how to use all of them. We got a private tour from the home owner because we happened to see him when we arrived and asked him if he wouldn't mind. They also have two cute pups that were very friendly and we got to play with a couple times. The view from both upstairs and downstairs is amazing. Huge open concept on the main floor with a gorgeous view of the bay. On the main floor, they also have a large soaking jet tub and a huge steam room for you to relax after the tub. Upstairs though is the main attraction of this home, there is a custom bed that rolls onto the outside-enclosed deck. This was by far our favorite part of the home. Nothing better than falling asleep to the sound of the waves crashing against the shore and waking up to a gorgeous sunrise and view of the water. One additional nice feature upstairs was the window positioned above the bed that allowed you to watch the moon overhead. On top of all this, their home is located off M-22 by all the local wineries. Overall, a great experience, amazing home and welcoming owners. We would recommend this to anyone looking to get away for a long romantic weekend for 2.
