1st time staying in Cedar, nice area, close to Cedar Polish festival which was our main visit. We were lucky enough to have a driver to have fun downtown Traverse City, & of course the festival. So close to Fishtown & Suttons Bay. Very quiet & clean, not to mention perfect size for 4 couples. We each had our own bedroom with bathrooms. Only negative, no electrical plugs in one bathroom, & appliances like coffee maker, could use an upgrade. The management company also made sure we had all information prior to our check-in. We all agreed we would consider coming back & staying here again.

We had a wonderful time on our annual girls trip! Easy to book, access the property, and they provided friendly customer service.I only gave 4 out of 5 stars on cleanliness because there was a very noticeable spot/stain on the king mattress sheet, but the place was well maintained overall.

This was a nice place for a short term stay. We had 10 people so the 4 bed/4 bath was ideal. We were pretty disappointed that the living room fireplace did not work properly. There were a lot of "rules" for the renters but not much for the people renting the property. Also some of the blankets were dirty and not usable.

Fell a bit short of expectations

This stay was mixed for us. There are a great deal of things that just weren’t well thought out or cared for. The good: plenty of space and having a bathroom in every bedroom is nice. Nice big refrigerator with ice maker. Beautiful location, well lit inside (lots of options), quiet area, with golf close by. Check in was easy! Not great:1. The description of this property does not include ANY references to the stairs. We had to change plans due to my elderly parents not being able to manage. No photos of stairs either. It’s very misleading. After looking into the reviews, a few mention it. Some of the stairs heading upstairs are in want of repairs. 2. The kitchen cabinets clearly are designed to have pulls and do not. There have been mentions of it in many reviews. 3. Some things just a bit sloppy. The curtain rods upstairs came apart every time we tried to open them because they are too short for the windows. One room had a completely broken rod. The hot and cold water were hooked up backward, so indicators are incorrect. One room has a bed with a headboard that is not even connected to the frame, or the wall. And missing outlet covers in one room. This rental has potential to be great if a maintenance crew spent 2 hrs there Most of the things would be done. Things were clean and easy to find or figure out.
3 out of 5 stars
Manager Response:
We are sorry you had some problems with your stay and that things were not handled before your stay. It was not reported that the curtain rod was down. It has been fixed, and the cabinets in the kitchen now do have knobs. As far as the stairs we never would try to be misleading and will make sure there is a picture of the stairs. We do have in the description of the different floors where the bedrooms are located. The carpet was just replaced in 2022, and the stairs were checked so that they may squeak from age, but they are sturdy.

We really enjoyed the property and the room for three families to stay for the weekend. While the view from the unit is not all encompassing, walking up the hill to take in the views was great. The kitchen cabinets do need pulls and the water pressure in the showers was not great. We enjoyed the place and it was well stocked.

Property was pretty much as described; however when we arrived, we were told that we could not use one of the top bunks as it was not safe. That presented a problem as we had four kids that wanted to sleep in the same room. Instead, our 15 year old had to sleep with his parents in the king bed. Also, the sink in the basement bedroom did not drain well and water pressure was horrible. Could not get a signal for the basement tv so never got it to work. Mold in tub areas in both upstairs bathrooms. All and all, we made the best of our experience. Findlay Ohio is the correct spelling not Finvlay

We enjoyed our stay here very much. It was very clean--we met the cleaning person and she was quite diligent. Everything was in working order and very comfortable. Our only complaint is that the water is very hard. It caused the dishwasher to leave a film on the dishes, which I had to scrub off. Warning to use the rinse aid would be helpful, and also the rinse aid compartment lid needs replaced. The hard water also made it hard to soap up in the showers. Otherwise, the unit was excellent for our family.

Sugarloaf was the perfect spot for our boys getaway weekend. We wanted to be out in the wilderness with a little bit of activity and with surrounding golf courses, the pool area and a short drive to big bear dunes and lake front we were in heaven. The staff was also very attentive and checked in multiple times that weekend to make sure we had everything we needed!

This was our 2nd visit to Sugar Buzz 8 and we orginally stated in Sugar Bush 6 and it had a major problem that was addressed right away. We were moved to 8 from 6. It is was Great and I would highly recommend it. There are so many extras that are wonderful i.e. games, lawn games...The only draw back for us was for a family member that is challenged with stairs and that the bedrooms are up or down. They did have a railing which is good. Otherwise it was Wonderful!

Plenty of room for 7 of us up for the toast the season wine weekend. Good central location. The home was clean but we did have trouble with the fire alarms. We had to disconnect them in order to stop the beeping. The parking lot was not plowed one day and those side streets can be treacherous. All in all it was a great place to stay though. Very well stocked with everything we needed.

Great Location for wine tour

Review date: 2016-11-25

Review by
We were 7 adults that stayed here while up north for the Taste of the Season wine tour on the Leelanau Peninsula. The location of the condo was great and central to all wineries. We rented the property because it had 4 bedrooms with 4 en suite bathrooms. The rental company (Visit Up North)was great to work with and kept me updated on everything. We did not have hot water the first morning until we realized that the hot water heaters circuit breaker was flipped ( later learned it was by the condo management). I feel the condo could have been cleaner - it was dusty and kitchen floor was sticky. The condo seemed dark and more lamps in the rooms would be beneficial. The value was good, the location was good, and the rental agency was great. We were out and about most of our time there and this property met our needs.

This townhome was very functional for our group of 5 adults. Plenty of beds, bathrooms and living space. Loved having a washer/dryer available and that the kitchen had enough cooking supplies for us to cook-in every night--even had a crock pot. Only thing missing was a corkscrew for wine. The bedrooms are spacious and the bathrooms functional. It is awesome to have 4 baths for privacy and ease of use, especially when the whole crew is trying to get ready at the same time.

Review by Wendy C.
Beautiful location, a little far from Traverse City but close to Leland and Glen Harbor, Sleeping Bear dunes. We had a beautiful view from the deck, looking at the abandoned ski resort. Hiked to the top and could see lake Lime, Little Traverse Lake and Lake Michigan! Beds very comfortable, air conditioning great, smallish kitchen but perfect for our needs and they have a lot of dishes and cooking equipment, blender, crock pot, grill in front. Stairs are a little steep and there is no bathroom on the main floor so you have to go up or down but we were very satisfied with the rental. Did not see the owners. Up North has great information, available online or you can download an app. They were very professional.

Loved having a bathroom for every bedroom. Made our stay very convenient for all family members. We loved the location (city), however be prepared to drive when you want dinner or shopping, but we knew this in advance so were fine. The abandoned ski resort was eerie but neat too. Other family members who live nearby remember when it was a busy and bustling place...scenery of Up North can't be beat! Overall stay was relaxing but too short!!The only negative is that the lowest level is not air conditioned and when running the dryer and after showering, it gets warm.

Loved our stay at the Sugar Buzz condo. Our family of 11 were very comfortable there, the rental was extremely clean when we arrived, and there was plenty of outdoor space for everyone to get some exercise. The area is beautiful and we will definitely consider a return visit when we travel to Michigan at a later date.

Perfect for our Thanksgiving Get Away

Review date: 2014-12-01

Review by
The condo and location were great! The view of the Mountain is beautiful and great for hiking and sledding. We were very pleased when we walked in and everything was clean! Also another really neat thing is that when our brother walked in for Thanksgiving dinner he pointed out the photo artwork was his on the walls. How crazy is that! The only downside is we had our parents over several times (they live in the area) and they are in their 80s and not having a bathroom on the first floor was difficult for them. I brought many things since I was going to be preparing many meals in particular Thanksgiving dinner, but the kitchen was well equipped. Like they advertised there were plenty of plates, silverware, glasses and cookware for 11 people. The living room is very comfortable with the two sofas, chaise lounge and chair. We always had plenty of seating for everyone. What is sad is these nice townhouses are in-between a dilapidated hotel and pole barn from the abandoned ski resort. I do hope that someone actually buys the place and revitalizes it as the area is beautiful in the winter. The town of Cedar and Maple City are close by if you need groceries. Sugarfoot Restaurant is close by and has good food. You are about 30 minutes from TC, but close to many wineries and good restaurants and shops in Leland and Northport. It is a quiet area which is what we like, but still close to TC if you want to drive in for more activity.

Almost Perfect

Review date: 2014-08-19

Review by Matt D.
This was an almost perfect property for our family. We did experience a few difficulties, but nothing that would prevent us from staying again. The grill was dirty, but we were able to get it pretty clean so we could use it. The remote controls for the tvs and dvd player were missing, but I ran to Meijer and bought some so we could use them. The dryer was not working upon our arrival, but the property managment was on top of it and had it fixed the same day. Our biggest complaints were that the sliding doors do not lock, and when they are in locked position, you can still get them open. This could be fixed with a simple piece of wood cut to fit so that the door can't slide open from the outside. Luckily, I was able to find a spare piece of wood that fit pretty well in one of the storage areas so that my son could feel safe sleeping in the basement. The other complaint is that we were without wifi for two days. I'm not sure if it was a property problem or a provider problem. Yes, I know we were on vacation and shouldn't be too concerned with wifi, but we use Netflix to watch movies. Other than those very minor things, we couldn't have asked for a better experience. This is a very quiet property, so if you are looking for nightlife, look elsewhere. Our kids had great fun exploring and hiking and everyone we met was very friendly. The pool was great as well, we just didn't have great weather so we only used it once. Our condo was clean upon arrival and the property management was very easy to deal with and gave great service when we called. While you do have to drive a ways to get to the attractions, we thought that was part of the charm. We saw a few things we wouldn't have normally seen just by staying in downtown TC. We would suggest this property for anyone that has a larger family and wants to stay in a quiet area.

We loved our stay at SugarBuzz! Very convenient with the lock box upon arrival. The furnishings were not only comfy but sort of modern with bright colors and trendy decor. We all enjoyed the double wide settee in the living area! Great view of "the hill" . I ate breakfast there every morning. The kitchen was stocked with quality dishes and cookware. The upstairs beds were very comfortable. Downstairs one bedroom had two sets of bunk beds which my 20-something boys slept in. This might've been better for smaller children but they were ok. My husband and sons played both of the golf courses and loved it. Great place to take walks or ride bikes, throw the football or hike up the hill. Beautiful views from up there! We played a little tennis but the courts are really in disrepair. Excellent location with a short distance to Leland, Suttons Bay, and Glen Arbor. Definitely recommend this unit and Visit Up North Vacations.

Very much enjoyed our stay at Sugar Buzz. Located on property of a now closed resort. Sad that it closed, nice that we enjoyed fun in the pool and the old tennis court! Quiet and relaxing as it is in the middle of nowhere. Don't stay here if you are looking for action and excitement--although it was cool that we had small planes occasionally land on the neighboring air strip. Ice cream place in Cedar is recommended. Friendly and affordable. Thanks!

Good family place for an up north stay

This unit was in good condition, and offered lots of room for a large family, or two smaller families. Everything was great, and the pool within walking distance was fantastic for the kids. The only hesitation I'd have is to say that if you have small children (under 3) this unit is not the most kid friendly for kids that are just starting to walk/crawl/climb. It's just not setup too well for that.

Close to beach, next to golf course and away from all the rush and madness of people vacationing up north. What more can one ask for. Beautiful landscape of ski hill in the backdrop and a air strip for twin engine and Cessna planes in the front. Facility had a nice and clean pool as well. Unit is next to 2 scenic golf courses Sugar Loaf the old course and Manitou Passage, an Arnold Palmer course. The unit how're needs some maintenance. Air conditioners need replacement and so does bathroom. Having portable or pedestal fans will also help. Be prepared to drive 10 mins for groceries in Cedar and or a nice dinners in Glen ArborOverall a good, relaxing vacation place.

With exception of minor problems with air conditioner and shower faucet everything was great. Up North Management was quick to respond when contacted and problems were resolved. If you want to grill out remember to bring your own propane tank or get the tank filled locally. Guest beds were good, King, Queen; what can I say about bunk beds, with ample towels for personal use. Need to bring your own beach towels. Kitchen was adequately stocked with accessories but you may want to bring your own bag of ice. Key box is on beam as you enter the unit not on the door which made locating the key box at night a little tricky in the dark. Overall I would say that the six of us were very pleased with the unit and would use it again. Too bad it is a minimum 3 night rental instead of two but two of our husbands stayed until Monday to play golf. Mary T.

When departing

When getting ready to depart, we wanted to sweep the floors, and give the place a quick vacuum. We were unable to find a broom or vacuum. Also, the coffee pot was broken, which frustrated the morning coffee drinkers. One last tip. We arrived at night, and it was very dark. We almost gave up trying to find the lock box. Maybe include a note that it is on the pole leading up to the condo, and not on the door. Overall, the place was great for a large group, and very comfortable. I would recommend this property in the future.

We were very pleased with almost everything. we had a couple of issues, one being the paperwork did not have the entire address,so once we arrived at the condo we had to call the phone number we were given to be told which unit we were staying in. The unit itself was pretty clean but I did have to wipe down the refrigerator and cupboards(full of crumbs and spills) before I could place food in them. There were a lot of spiders (bug spray would have been nice had to kill about 5) and cobwebs that I had to clear away but I am sure that is probably due to how much time lapsed between renters. We spent close to 1/2 hour cleaning before we could put our things away. We definitely left it cleaner than when we arrived and would only suggest that you either supply garbage bags or let renters know they will need to bring them as the only bags we found on the premises were to small for the garbage can. Price of renting the condo could not be better, I have already recommended you and will continue to do so, we were all very comfortable and enjoyed our stay very much. Thank you so much for all you did to find us a nice place on such short noticed, this was for my brothers memorial and had a lot of people from out of state come in and everything worked out beautifully.

We had stayed at the same place but a different townhouse a few years ago and this property had better outside area and more open spaces. The owners of the previous townhouse had more amenities but this one was overall a better fit for our family. It is a good value but do have to drive a little further
