We have rented this house several times (5?) in the past years. Visit Up North employees are quick to respond to reasonable requests and are courteous and pleasant. August 2024’s weather was VERY hot (90 to 100 degrees every day) and the fans in every room were very welcome! We are 8 professional artists coming to paint plein air (outside) every day, all day. The house is large enough to all gather together, if we want, either in the dining room, living room, or the deck outside. We critique our paintings in the long and narrow enclosed front porch. We each have our own bedroom which allows us to maintain our individual schedules. Two bedrooms down, six bedrooms up the very narrow stairs. There are two full baths downstairs, one with tub, one with shower. Upstairs, one toilet and sink, and in its own room, a shower, a very convenient setup.

My stay was good, everything was clean, the only thing they could improve was the air conditioning system since it doesn't work and modernize the rooms.

We love renting this space. We are here to paint plein-air (outside) all day, every day. Everyone is on a different schedule and the house is big enough for some to get up at dawn to paint and finish by afternoon, and some to start to paint in the afternoon and stay up most of the night.Love the updated stove/oven. Big fridge. Enough dining space for all of us to gather if we want.Love the updated bathroom/shower downstairs. We utilize the porch to critique each other's work. The windows upstairs are a challenge, but it's an old house. There's a fan for every bedroom and kept it cool even though it was 90.

We had a wonderful time at Somewhere In Time. The house has a lot of charm, and had plenty of space for our group of 13. The location makes it easy to get to all of the surrounding activities you would need. The property was actually nicer than what the pictures showed.

Charming Stay

Review date: 2022-07-20

Review by Kathryn R.
We loved our stay at Somewhere in Time. The farmhouse was beautiful and charming as well as in a perfect location to drive between Sleeping Bear Dunes and Traverse City. Our only complaint was finding dirty clothes under beds and having to completely wash and dry all dishes before leaving in the morning instead of running (and leaving) in dishwasher.

Our family recently stated in this turn of the century home. We thought it was wonderful. It’s not modern so don’t expect it. Enjoy the house for what it is. It’s a bit shabby but in a homey comfortable way. It was extremely clean. The only negative I could say is that a couple of the beds could use replacement, but if you’ve done this type of rental before you know that’s usually the case. With so many bedrooms everyone should find a spot.

I honestly felt this farmhouse was going to have an old smell to it like many others I have stayed in, but it didn’t, not at all! It was as VERY clean and had just enough rooms and beds for my family. It wasn’t too far from Traverse City and close to beaches. There isn’t really anything negative I can say about this place because it was so perfect. But if I had to, I’d say they need at least a small fire pit, and the walls and ceilings had many cracks, but can be expected from such an old place right?!I highly recommend this place for families looking for a beautiful scenic get away. My family and I loved it and are looking to come back again!

Centrally located to so many incredible spots Up North, this large and cozy home served as home base for three families for an extended weekend. We slept 16 comfortably, with kids ranging in age from 2.5 to 11 years old. We had a wonderful stay and would recommend for the budget-minded traveler who is looking for charm and access to surrounding attractions.

Charming home, centrally located

Review date: 2018-07-17

Review by Diane M.
I was pleasantly surprised when I entered the charming rental home this past weekend after reading the reviews. The home was clean, well stocked with fans in all the bedrooms, more than enough towels, comfortable beds and pillows. We did bring our own chairs for the deck. However, a table and chairs has been added along with a few plastic Adirondack chairs. The home centrally located . For us it was easy to split our large group in any direction...27 minutes to Traverse City and the other half 12 minutes to play golf at the Homestead. The only downside to the home is , there is no air conditioning and some of the windows in the upstairs did not open. Thankfully, our group didn’t fill all the rooms so we were able to pick and choose which ones were the best. The management company was great. We had a call the day of our arrival and the day after to make sure we were comfortable and everything was wonderful. Directions to work the stove were clearly printed on the refrigerator, that was very helpful. Overall, our stay was very pleasant and we would definitely stay again.

Fun Old House

Review date: 2016-07-11

Review by
This farm house has a lot of old home charm. While I love old homes, this one needs quite a bit of updating and love. There is chipping paint, rotten wood throughout and peeling tile in the ice cream parlor. The old stove is charming but I would've preferred something a bit more functional. All that said, we had a great time and enjoyed having a large amount of space for our group of 10.

A lovely old house with many bedrooms in the middle of Leelenau Peninsula. Although there is nothing but rolling country side and The Holy Rosary Church in the immediate vicinity, this location is so central that you can reach almost any part of the area in 20 minutes or so.We had a good time. We had trouble lighting the oven one night, (although not trouble the first time), I would suggest that the instructions for this procedure be a bit more prominent and/or clear, but we figured it out and cooked a great dinner. Thanks!Would recommend.

Review date: 2014-07-29

Review by John S.
The property was clean and maintained OK. It needed a few updates. They say they want it to be "original or authentic" but the kitchen and the bathrooms need updating! Size & location were just as advertised but the stove and kitchen in general are not adequate for the number of people the house sleeps. The bathrooms need updating. Overall we had a great time and the kids want to go back.

To address a previous review, the stove is gas but DOES work...the oven just runs hot, so keep an eye on your food and you'll be just fine. Dishwasher is portable but a snap to hook up and use. Location is GORGEOUS with rolling hills, a pretty church across the street, and quaint downtown Cedar just down the road. We liked the large number of bedrooms and thought the "maze"-ish set-up of the house was cool.

The staff at the reservation office are professional and the rental was in good condition and very clean. In general, we had good time there. However, there were a few things can be improved: (1) the stove was very slow, (2) no instruction to where/how to connect the dish washer,we were unable to use it.

My family and I really enjoyed our stay at Somewhere in Time at Cedar, Michigan. It was exactly what we wanted, a place we could all (16) stay under one roof and there was something for everyone in the vicinity. Our family members came from Connecticut, Montana, Wisconsin, Chelsea, Napoleon and Grass Lake MI. So it was important for us to have a "gathering place". The eight bedrooms were ample for our needs. The linens were plentiful and of "hotel quality". There were enough dishes, cutlery and cooking pots and pans. We did not use the portable dishwasher but we did use the washer and dryer. There was plenty of space to spread out OR be on your own. Everyone enjoyed it immensely. The weather was beautiful but if it had not been there was still plenty of room inside. The house is rather unique and attractively furnished. The cleaning staff had just left when we arrived on Sunday. Unfortunately there was a HUGE pile of trash left in the front yard, (not enough room in the garbage container) which remained until Wed. The neighbor lady suggested they could use an additional container. There were "ticks" (the Lime Disease carrier type)that appeared in the bathrooms and on the bedroom ceilings on the first floor. My Connecticut guests recognized them, as I had never seen a "tick". Cleaning staff should check this. The one thing we had to clean ourselves was the gas grill, an easy item for the cleaners to miss. The deck was nice and we had brought a few additional lawn chairs to add to the ones supplied. The TV reception (for the Olympics) was good and we were very surprised and pleased to learn we had access to WiFi. My children's & grand-children's spouses all told me they thought we had made a great selection, I think that was the real plus. Everyone left saying, "Let's do it again"

We had a very nice stay at Somewhere in Time. It was large enough for the 14 of us and enough room so the younger children could be supervised, but in another room so the adults could talk. The bedrooms are made for 2 people each, so we had no problem splitting up girls and boys and parents got the luxury of our own rooms.

We had a great time and the house was great for our big group. Please note that the downstairs bathroom bathtub needs a water faucet. Plus, halfway thru the week we noticed that the upstairs shower leaked down through the dining room ceiling (just in front of the front door). We stopped using that shower, but many renters might not and could cause lots of damage. Besides this we had a great stay. We would LOVE to learn any history on the house or church across the street.
