Tucked up in the trees in a quiet area, Hakala Hills Retreat is a great location for a relaxing stay. Located just a few miles out of downtown Traverse City, this place is close to everything. This lovely four-bedroom, two-bathroom cabin welcomes up to 10 guests.

The open-concept kitchen gives way to the dining and living room area and is a great place to cook, eat, watch TV, or snuggle up in front of the fireplace. There is one bedroom on the main level, one in the basement, and two upstairs.

The deck off the living/dining area is set up for grilling and relaxing in a peaceful, wooded setting. In the yard, you will find a fire pit.

This area is a quick drive west to the downtown area of Traverse City, heading north and east to Williamsburg, Elk Rapids, and beyond. Turtle Creek Casino is an easy trip from here. East Grand Traverse Bay and the state park are just minutes away, with several public beaches to choose from. There are plenty of food options nearby, as well as shopping and much more! The home is just 7 miles from the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival location.

The cabin is situated in a lovely community. It offers spacious bedrooms with comfortable beds. The place was exceptionally clean and well-stocked with essential items such as seasonings, paper towels, toilet tissues, and coffee filters.The outdoor area was neat and tidy, featuring Adirondack chairs for six people. Although the chairs could benefit from power washing, it was still a nice touch.The only drawback was the stairs to the upper and lower levels, which creaked quite loudly.

Perfect “away from the crowds” get away!

Family was up from Florida to visit property they have in Kalkaska. Wanted time together that did not involve the crowds, or small hotel rooms. This place was awesome!! It had everything we needed to cook the meals that we had planned. (Minus the food) We loved the fire pit at night. The layout of the main living space was perfect for cooking and visiting. Beds were comfy and the whole place was very clean. We plan to come back to this same location in the near future!!!

A family graduation brought us up and this cabin was the perfect place for a home base. There is not a lot of square footage, but the beds were comfortable and the cabin was clean. Fire pit out back was AWESOME to have everyone gather one evening for stories and memories. Quick 10 minute drive to downtown but still felt like a cabin up in the wilderness. Would stay again in a heartbeat!

Great cabin, location is nice. A few things to keep in mind that I do not think were specified:-charcoal grill, we couldn’t find the charcoal (behind the trash can in closet) and bring a lighter. The louver on the grill needs adjusting it’s tight.-fireplace controls, the bottom fireplace panel folds open-no onsite firewood for firepit-100ft or so of dirt road to get hereThis is a great place, clean, everything worked, no real problems. I would definitely visit again!

Moderate It was very cold when we arrived. There is no fence or steps at the right side of the deck which id=s more than 2 ft. Above ground. The steps up to the front door have a part of the building jutting out almost half way across narrow steps. The pots and pan cupboards were junked anyhow. And there was no shortage of dust. Even the only key had a key ring that simply fell off

Nice cabin with lots of room to sleep and small but well stocked kitchen. Location is great and the yard is much better than photos depict. Private with rooms for games and campfires and outside dining. The home was clean clean clean, especially considering it’s setting in the trees. Only complaint, and not a deal breaker, for the price point of the cabin, I expected nicer furnishings, bedding and newer TVs. Still highly recommend!

Very pleased with the Hakala Hills Retreat in Traverse City. Visit Up North was a pleasure to deal with and the house was terrific. Nicely stocked house in the kitchen, good quality sheets and towels, excellent cleanliness, etc. Really enjoyed the rural setting and outdoor space as well. Close to town which was nice. Will give it 4.9 stars. Only reason not 5 stars is the BBQ grill is charcoal and would expect propane grill for a house of this cost. Also, AC is a window unit not central, so doesn't handle the upstairs well. Otherwise great visit and will be back next year.

Cleanliness- definitely, as described- definitely, good for a group of 9 moms wine tasting- definitely. The house had everything we needed... last experience we had a single roll of toilet paper and no soap- NOT our experience here. There were coffee filters, sugar, hand soap... we were very impressed with this rental. My only issue is I tried to take a nap at one point and sound travels so easy because it’s a log cabin without insulation. No fault of the owners just the nature of the beast so bring ear plugs! We would come back here again. No complaints about the home at all. I could see this being a nice rental in the summer as well. Outside Stairs were dicey but they encourage you to go though the garage and it is just fine. Not a problem.

This Cabin is clean and comfortably accommodates a family of ten. We stayed with a total of 6 kids and 4 adults. There were no complaints. There are a few things that could be updated but I say that more for others who expect perfection(that’s not us). We were told that the driveway in the winter is no joke and that is true. Steep and 4x4 needed if icy. We completely enjoyed our stay.

We had a great time, everything was perfect. This is a beautiful home in a very rural setting, yet only 15 minutes from TC amenities. We enjoyed some great Christmas shopping, and had a fabulous interactive dinner at the Fuji Sushi and steakhouse. We were all thankful for 4wheel drive because of the driveway, I can see where that could be a challenge if there was ever ice or rain after a snow. Don't let this stop you, this home is well worth the driveway. We were so comfortable and relaxed.

Enjoyed a long weekend with friends in Traverse City. The Hakala Hills Retreat was a great place for the six of us to relax and enjoy our time. Close enough to hiking (unable to bike due to weather but would have been ideal for that too) trails, wineries/breweries/distilleries, restaurants and shopping. Sleeping arrangements worked well for our 3 couples and having two full baths was good. Kitchen had everything we needed. Parking was easy. Management Team easy to work with by phone or email.

Beautiful place to stay, with plenty of space for our whole family, we loved it! The only complaint we had was that there was NOT a fan furnished in every bedroom like the amenities said. There was no AC, so we expected a fan to be provided in every bedroom. Thankfully, this was early June, so it wasn't too bed, although, the 2 upstairs bedroom go pretty warm the last night. I want to add that the house was very clean, and nice inside and out! We would definitely consider staying here again!

5 Cousins Retreat was the perfect cabin for a weekend away. We had 10 people and went for a mothers/daughters weekend, we had a great time. It was close enough to downtown TC but still with your privacy by ourselves at the cabin. We had more then enough room here and they had everything we needed. The staff at Up North Rentals was so easy to work with as well; Erin and Jeanie were so helpful in booking. Great Vacation- home was nice and clean. Pictures are exact! Great location close to town, but with a country setting! Up North staff was very attentive with follow up and phone calls! Suggestions kitchen needs a few more dishes and pans, maybe an electric fry pan- we cooked most meals. Update information about what to do with trash and the day it needs to go out! Beds were comfy to most! The grass needed to be cut as we had a little one and a dog to play in the yard. Living room has setting for4-5 people. Great house, great time!

Our family vacation was spent at Hakala Hills Retreat. It was a clean, updated, and great place to stay! The staff answered questions in a timely matter and took care of concerns immediately. They were very kind and installed a window air conditioner for the week to accommodate my physical disability. The only thing I would suggest is making the steps on the back a smaller rise and adding a handrail.

This cabin is very convenient to Traverse City, and in good condition. The only drawback is that it is located in a cell phone dead zone, and there were no instructions for connecting to the wifi. The rental company was helpful in getting wifi info when we called, but it would have been helpful if some basic instructions for the wifi and television were left in the rental.
