Stay at this incredible lakefront lodge, located on a quiet tree-lined road right on Long Lake. This beautiful home has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms and welcomes up to 10 people. The open-style, spacious living room has a wood-burning fireplace and is a great place for gathering. The primary bedroom has its own fireplace and an en-suite bathroom.

This location is beautiful and private on an all-sports lake with a no-wake zone in front of the house. There is a huge porch with rocking chairs and wrought iron furniture to sit and enjoy the gorgeous lake views. Enjoy summer picnics on the deck or down on the shoreline, with lots of room for the kids to run and play. The water is shallow at the shore. There is a grill available for outdoor cooking, and a fire pit by the shore. The sunsets are spectacular and make for a perfect ending to a perfect day.

This home is in a great location for exploring the area. It is about 6.5 miles to downtown Traverse City and 10 miles to the Interlochen Center for the Arts. Drive approximately 30 miles to the Sleeping Bear Dunes, and 26 miles to Crystal Mountain for skiing in the winter!

Peace and serenity on Long Lake

Review date: 2024-11-09

Review by John D.
We visited the Forest Lodge Serenity house in late October 2024. The forest setting was wonderful and any summer crowds were long gone. The colors and the leaves on the ground added to the beauty. The vintage home makes you feel like you are in the early 1900 but it is fully renovated and comfortable. Pet friendly is also a big feature. The location is far from everywhere yet minutes from Traverse City. perfect. We will definitely return.

My wife and I stayed at the Forest Lodge in the late fall and it was spectacular. It was quiet, colorful, and the location was perfect relative to Traverse city and the wineries. The home is historic yet with all modern conveniences. We recommend it for out of season visits.

Huge historic home on beautiful Long Lake couldn’t have been any more charming. The walk down to the lake was a little longer than we would have liked but overall it was a fantastic vacation place. We had plenty of room to live for a week with the spacious great room .The dining room table switched conveniently from a place to eat into a family gathering for evening games and cards. The large wrap around porch provided another area of outdoor gathering for morning coffee to plan the day’s activities. We would consider rebooking in the future.

This is a great all sports lake and a great location. Rental co was helpful. Home was as described, well equipped and fairly comfortable. Room for big extended family, however one queen bed mattress in room off the kitchen in very saggy bad shape and needs replacing. Great new boat dock and nice beach for the kids. Watch out for swimmers itch which can happen on any lake in the region. We had a good time, rental was clean enough but it’s quite old and is dark inside because of the construction.

We usually go to Florida this time of year, but wanted to stay out of the heat this time. We are all very glad we chose this spot. The home and location were great. Beautiful lake view from the porch, dock for our pontoon,m lake swimming, fire pit each night and enjoyed Traverse City and surrounding area. Hiking, boating and fishing. First time on M22 and some very good restaraunts and small towns to experience.

2nd Lovely Stay at Serenity Forest Lodge

Review date: 2023-07-02

Review by Amy H.
Our family group of 6 adults (three generations) enjoyed our second summer vacationing at this historic, secluded, cool lakeside lodge. Numerous improvements had been made; we so appreciated the increased lighting, new washer/dryer, and how very clean the whole place was when we arrived. The new dock is sturdy and makes swimming much easier with the steps down into the water. The kitchen is well stocked, and we loved both casual lunches on the back patio, and gathering at the large dining table for dinner. Proximity to Traverse City shopping and attractions is terrific. We rented a kayak and used the canoe that comes with the rental too. Long Lake is clear and very swimmable, with buoys marking a loon preserve across the lake from the lodge. We heard loons every morning and night, and even saw a few. Guests should be warned that this is not a very accessible house; that's the down side. We brought 2 grandmothers, but couldn't bring the third because she can't do stairs. A few ramps here would go a long way.

We are so pleased to know that you enjoyed this lakeside home for a second year ! We appreciate your comments regarding the improvements and location to Traverse City. Yes there are steps from the expansive porch to the lake, main floor bedrooms and bathrooms with a few steps into the home should accommodate most guest easily.

First time staying at this house. Very uniquely built with main area having plenty of space to visit with your family and friends. Back porch gives you a great view of the property and overlooking the lake. The lake is always calm even on windy days which is nice compared to Traverse Bay when you have small children. Would highly recommend.

What a wonderful time our entire family shared while staying in your beautiful home. It was remarkable in every way! The location was incredible with a private beach, a beautiful dock for our boat, a canoe and rowboat and a delightful fire pit right by the lake. Your home was exquisite in every way - all the rooms beautifully decorated with impressive antiques, a spacious well-stocked kitchen, a comfortable and cozy living room, a gigantic wraparound porch, and plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms. What a beautiful place to make lifelong memories!

Great family getaway

Review date: 2023-01-24

Loved this house! The Lodge was perfect for our family getaway with our older kids. House had everything we needed in a beautiful forest setting not far from Traverse City. Plenty of bedrooms, bathrooms and space. We would love to return next year. My only suggestion would be that the driveway be plowed. Our 4Runner had no trouble getting up the driveway but our kids parked at the bottom having vehicles without 4 wheel drive. It had snowed the night before our arrival and was a little slick.

Forest Lodge Serentiy is like visiting the past

This vacation rental provided a wonderful experience. We stayed in late October and the colors were at a peak. Situated in a deep forest setting right on the lake, one experiences seclusion and quiet with all the lake views. Better yet the home was built in the 1880s and is fully updated. The furniture and decor are antique yet there are all the modern conveniences one would expect in a great vacation rental. Plenty of outlets, efficient heating and cooling, great cable and internet, yet like living in the past. The rental is also pet friendly and on a very quiet road ideal for walking the pets and by ourselves. The lake is shallow and very clean. The sunsets were stunning. The fireplace was functional (need to supply your own wood and kindling). Kitchen was well equipped, and the bedrooms are like from a bed and breakfast. We will definitely stay again.

We were a group of 10 with a dog and really enjoyed the space and the lodge-like feel of the house, with high ceilings and a lot of wood. We loved feeling far away, on a dirt road, but at the same time, close to Traverse City and even closer to Fresh Coast Market where you can get most anything (for a price...). The lake was great to kayak on calm days. The pictures of the house don't do justice to it.

We had a snowstorm while we were there and the driveway was cleared quickly which was very much appreciated. We had everything we needed. Wonderful classic cottage with comfortable living room, large dining table, comfortable bedrooms and stone fireplaces. The porch overlooking Long Lake was very nice, and the private beach with fire pit was outstanding! Crystal clear water and sandy bottom. The exterior of the cottage is a bit worn and made me a little nervous when we were walking in, but the inside is well maintained and very comfortable!

We had loads of fun, 8 adults one 15month old (our Grandson). The weather was good not too hot. The lodge is great for large gatherings. We never felt like we were in each others way. The kitchen is well supplied with utensils. could of used a couple more fry pans. But there was 1 large a 3 small. Plenty of plates and bowls, plus coffee cups. Make sure to bring your own sugar, salt and pepper as the lodge may not have it because its not really up to them to supply it.. If its there its because the previous renters left it. Small stuff anyway. The beds were fine, no real complaints. Just a little note: if you sleep in the Master bedroom it is right off the living room. If you need total quiet while others stay up longer than you just bring a box fan for your room and it really blocks out the din from the living room. There is one room off the kitchen but my son had no noise complaints. the other 3 rooms around the back of the lodge and they are more private. It really is a lodge, not by name only. Out back from the living room is the porch that looks out to the lake. There is a long lawn back there to play lawn games after that is a little sort of bridge to walk over a small wetland type area before you get to the private beach with a good dock. On the beach is a nice fire pit which we used a lot. The water is shallow for about the first 30 feet and after that it gradually gets a bit deeper. We rented a pontoon boat and we could park it at the dock which was a nice thing. There is plenty of parking for sure so no need to worry about that. We brought our German Shepherd and he loved everything there. He seemed to remember things from the last time we were there. He also loved swimming. We will definitely be going back!

With 2 dogs, a toddler, a newborn and 10 adults...Forest Lodge treated us well! The private beach was nice and we rented a pontoon boat for the week. Rooms are spacious and furniture was comfy. Only downside was the trek to get down to the beach area. If you can get past that, I’d recommend staying at the Lodge!

The lodge served our group of 12 perfectly. The kids spent more time down on the lake than inside. The water is crystal-clear and it was nice having a canoe to use. The rowboat was missing an oar and the propane tank for the grill was empty, but it was an otherwise enjoyable stay. Being so close to Moomer's is a great plus, too.

So pleased your stay was wonderful. We had to search for the misplaced oar with no luck either. We will have that replaced. Although we do not supply propane the start of the season we do fill the tank. We are sorry this wasn’t the case.

We'd like to have lingered longer!

Although we gathered our daughters from the West coast for their Gran's memorial, we also hoped to recapture some of the "Up North" feeling we were fortunate to have experienced during their childhood years in Michigan. This old family lodge was the right place for us to relax and listen to the music of the spring peepers, gray tree frogs, wood ducks and common loons. We watched a beaver and deer crossing the pond, and saw the fiddlehead ferns arise in the woods. The beds were comfortable, and the nights dark and peaceful. The great room and deck gave us plenty of space to play games, watch birds, or just read a book. We enjoyed returning to Port Oneida beach in Leelanau county, where my parent's cottage had been, and re-visited the Mission Point Lighthouse and the Old Mission General Store. We explored some of the Long Lake Township Parks, viewing wildflowers in Timbers Recreation Area. My family would love to stay at Forest Serenity Lodge again. (Our only functional comments are: please re-label the parking area light switch in the kitchen. We were disappointed to find the propane grill tank empty, but did not go hungry.) Also worth noting- we found that we could drop off our recycling in front of County Health Department Building at 2600 Lafranier. (Why feed it to the earth?) Thanks again for a peaceful stay!

Our week at Serenity Lodge

Review date: 2018-07-09

Review by Teresa E.
We enjoyed our week with our four adult children and four young adult grandchildren. Our weather was good, especially for mid-June. When we arrived the dock had not yet been put in and I called the same day and asked to have it installed. That was on a Friday and finally by Tuesday, it had been taken care of. The Up North staff were pleasant and responsive. The deep soaking tub in the master bed/bath was very slippery and difficult for my husband and myself to get in and out of. We went into town and purchased an anti-slip mat that made us feel safer but a new anti-slip surface on the tub floor would probably be a good idea. The kitchen was great for the many meal preps we had there and the gas grill was also very convenient. I left some items behind in the dresser and bath room and called Up North. The staff found my items and promptly mailed them to me. I was very grateful for that. We had to replace several lightbulbs, including in several lamps and above the stove.

The cabin was spaceous, clean, and affordable for our group of guys. Little walk to the beach sitting on a gorgeous lake. Friday night we had a camp fire by the water, and fished the lake. Saturday we did the Kayak Brewery Tour in Traverse City (10 Minutes away from cabin) Sunday we relaxed, had a campfire, grilled up some good eats, hung out on the sandbar, and did some fishing. Overall excellent weekend. Air conditioning worked, paper products were stocked well, and plenty of towels to get through the weekend.

Plenty of beds and bedrooms. Nice large gathering space to relax and eat meals, there were 8 of us. Two smaller bathrooms and kitchen need updating, but were adequate. Only 1 burner on the stove worked, but microwaved rice and it was fine. Too early in the season to enjoy the water or beach. Easy drive to TC. Great viewing of nature from lakeside deck. Saw deer, chipmunks, squirrel, loons, woodpeckers.

It was a perfect spot for our family to celebrate Christmas. Although it snowed everyday, many inches, the company plowed everyday also, including when we received 18 inches in 12 hours. The house was warm and cozy. The house is about 15 minutes form downtown, but it took longer since the roads were so bad. In the summer it would be a perfect distance.

Our family had a fantastic time at this cottage. Plenty of room for our family and dogs, 8 adults, 3 kids, 2 dogs, and a beautiful, quiet spot to relax and recharge. The place was built in 1900 I believe and they have made many updates since. The fireplace was wonderful, open living room perfect for entertaining, and back patio a great spot to watch the sunset or the waves go by. We even took the canoe out a few times even though it was November in northern Michigan. We had a fantastic time and were very thankful for our stay. Were there a few things off that may concern you? Sure, one of the burners may need to be fixed and the back door lock jammed. You can't use the garbage disposal because they have a septic tank But the heat worked well, the fireplaces were great, the piano was fun to use, the kitchen had plenty of room, etc, etc. All in all, a beautiful place, on a beautiful property. We made many great memories we will never forget. And we hope to come back again!

I planned a weekend couples getaway in Traverse City and this house was AMAZING! The house needed a little work but it was spacious, beautiful, and it really gave a modern, cabin feel. The tiny beach and lake made for beautiful sunsets and there was a fire pit by the lake. We definitely had a bonfire! The house was about 20-30 minutes away from Sleeping Bear Dunes, and many wineries. It was a little confusing driving through the wooded area to find the home but once we found it, it was fairly easy to get to the house and back. I would recommend this home for couples and/or families.

Everyone loved the house. Such a homey warm feeling. For a large family, we loved the big great room and the long dining table. On a rainy fall weekend, the fireplace was perfect. Plenty of towels but needs more hangers since we all had our wedding clothes to hang up. The iron was missing and the Up North send a new one. Excellent people.

Our family of 12 had a great stay at Forest Lodge Serenity. There are many things to do in and around Traverse City, eg., biking, kayaking, sailing, hiking, fishing and beach lounging. Great restaurants in the area, too.The rental house was well equipped, but had a few issues (two burners on stove not working, leaky shower head, a few lights out, but nothing major).

Great older house with a remote, old-style cottage feel. The lake is quiet for its size with many Loons and stars at night. One small issue for those that may need to have the Internet to check in on work occasionally, access was pretty much limited to the kitchen and the bedroom off the kitchen. Other than that it was a terrific vacation spot. I highly recommend this house.

Our first impression was how spotlessly clean the Lodge was. The description online was great. Second how well stocked with kitchen supplies as far as plates pots pans silverware, toilet paper etc. Also the masterbedroom has a fireplace, and a jacuzzi in the bathroom which is very nice. There are also 2 other full bathrooms which is a huge plus. the other rooms were comfortable and spacious. We all slept very well. The living room has very comfortable furniture and we really liked the big dining table. There were 8 of us and none of us have any complaints what so ever. The beach is a little walk down but we all liked it because there is a lawn that they maintain very nicely. we played cornhole as well as other games then we would go to the beach and go for a swim play games in the water. We took our dog rocco who is a year and half old german shepherd. He loved it there as well especially the swimming!!. we did bring a crate for him and I would recommend if you use one at home to bring it. We always kept him on a leash for his own protection in case he decided to go exploring on his own..The lake was beautiful and warm plus the beautiful sunsets. It has a canoe and a row boat. Which we used everyday. We also had nightly bonfires on the beach, which was wonderful. We all know pictures don't do justice to places. It certainly exceeded our expectations and we hope to book to go back there soon. I would also recommend "Visit Up North Vacations" to everyone. They were very professional and kind.

My husband & I and our 2 adult children, with their families--10 in total-- stayed in Forest Lodge Serenity . 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, large back deck & indoor dining area fit our needs very well. The cottage was well stocked both in the kitchen and bathrooms. Many items that I'd brought with me--detergents, paper products, etc, went home, as so much was provided. We used mostly paper plates to reduce the need for washing dishes, but could have served at least two meals before needing to run the dishwasher. Plenty of cooking utensils of all sorts. If anything, an empty shelf or two in a cabinet would have helped, but we figured out where to store our groceries. The living are was extremely comfortable with two large couches and a chair. The dock and beach were a walk down and out, but with small children I counted it as a plus. Both boats were used and in good condition.Surrounding area offers way more than can be enjoyed in a week--Sleeping Bear Dunes, wineries, lighthouses, bike paths, Moomers!

We had a great experience and the place really worked out well for our needs. This was a group of 11 women who all went to high school together and continue to keep in touch 40+ years later. There were a few things that needed to be fixed: 2 of the 4 stove burners were not working and the lamp in the master bedroom did not work. The area rug in the "great room" either needs to be pitched or have a thorough cleaning. If we had children with us we would not have allowed them to play on the floor. The place could use some updated but was clean. I am afraid if they did too much updating that would be reflected in the price :>). We would rent this again as it worked out well for our needs.

This was a welcome reprieve from daily life. Our family all met here for the week, to be together and enjoy the area. This was a beautiful setting and I loved the lodge. It kind of felt like a place in another time. There was plenty of room for all of us and each bedroom was uniquely decorated. We had our own little beach, a place to make a fire and cook marshmallows and a nice kitchen for the chef's in out group. We planned a treasure hunt for our seven year old grandson. Having direct access to the lake was wonderful. Even though the setting was reclusive there was easy access to Traverse City where we enjoyed visiting the lovely downtown area and having lunch at the Blue Tractor. We are so glad that we came upon this place. It suited us perfectly.

Other than a few minor repairs that need attention, the house was in great shape! Visit Up North was very professional, the directions were great! The home was all we could ask for and more. It's even better than the pictures. It's a great spot to bring small children because of the beach area and the shallow water. The water is far enough away from the house that we didn't have to worry about being constantly vigilant that the children would stray out of our sight and to the water. When we called the management oompany with questions, they were cheerful and willing to answer questions. They called back if they didn't have the answer. I highly recommend this home.
