Be on beautiful West Bay kick off your shoes and go barefoot, in this super cute cottage located in the charming village of Northport. Relax on the porch overlooking the expansive beautiful view of the sparkling water and spend your vacation having a great time in this 3 bedrm/ 2 bath, with accommodations for 7. Main house is 2 bedrooms/1 bath downstairs and there is an additional apartment upstairs with 1 bedroom/1 bath. House has 1 Queen and 1 trundle set (2 Twins). Upper level has 2 Twins that can be clipped together to make a King. Dock. Short walk to downtown Northport which offers Barb’s Bakery where everyone goes for cinnamon rolls, antique stores, Dog Ears books, art galleries, gift shops, playground, and more. Northport marina welcomes tall ships to their harbor.

Fish off the pier if you like. Music in the park in the summer. Short drive to lighthouse, Christmas Cove and Peterson Park where you can hunt for Petoskey Stones. Awesome fall color location. Fireplace, phone, high speed internet, cable TV/DVD/VCR, firepit. Linens provided. pet considered. No A/C, no smoking.
40 minutes to Traverse City and Glen Arbor (near Sleeping Bear Dunes). 15 minutes to Leland & Suttons Bay. Dozens of wineries on the Peninsula. Hiking trails at Leelanau State Park, Houdek Sand Dunes, Good Harbor Beach and more.

July 09 comment: This was by far the best vacation in a long time. The house is extremely cute and very clean. It’s perfect for extended families, because the upstairs is self-contained with its own space and bath — outside stairs. Northport is adorable, but Suttons Bay and Leland are also so close that you can find more than enough to do. Barb’s Bakery (their cinamon sticks especially) was the highlight of the town! We’ve already reserved again for next year.
August 09 comment: You really cant beat the view from Barefoot Beach. It was wonderful to sit on the patio inches from the water roasting marshmallows in the firepit. The village of Northport is adorable, with lots of variety for places to eat. Sleeping Bear dunes is an easy day trip. We would stay here again.

Between May and October, there is no consistently better place to be fishing in America than Traverse City, Mich. Diversity is the key: Lake Michigan with salmon and steelhead; Grand Traverse Bay with some of the best smallmouth pockets and carp flats in America; and more rivers and natural lakes filled with trout, bass, and panfish than you can begin to touch in one season. The calendar in Traverse City is honest-spectacular yellow birches in the falls, frosty white winters, damp misty springs, and radiant blue-green summers. The true outdoor aficionado finds solace (and opportunity) in every month here, be it fishing, hunting, cross-country skiing, or hiking. It’s an affordable, yet polished, place to be. And the hometown culture is still a classic slice of Rockwell-esque Americana.

Visit Up North Vacation Rentals has been host to many happy guests enjoying the vacation of their dreams. Today, many long for that slow vacation far from the frantic pace of what life has become. You can experience that here in Northern Michigan under big blue skies, clean air, tranquil waters, trees that stretch to the sky and peaceful calm that embraces you when you least expect it. Meet one of our “guests” that have spent many happy years doing the slow vacation…

We have been renting the same cabins called “Brookhaven” on Glen Lake for the last 17 years. We started going there when are kids were 2,5 and 7.
The group has gradually expanded to include another family our extended family members, random friends, various romantic partners of our kids and their best friends. Glen Lake is at the base of the Sleeping Bear Dunes and the area is filled with rolling hills, sand dunes and lakes every few miles, all situated along the banks of Lake Michigan.

It’s a week of grilling out, wakeboarding, poker playing, hiking the dunes, biking to town and eating all cherry products created under the sun.
There are no TV’s, minimal wireless access, and poor cell phone reception.
The air is fresh and clear, albeit at times crisp. The water is as blue as the Carribbean and invigorating. The choice we face every day is whether to run, bike, swim, hike, kayak on the Crystal River or just sit in a lawn chair on the side of the lake with a stack of books. If we are really energetic we will pick our way up the dune climb and hike to Lake Michigan. At sunset though we can go to the Overlook and watch the teenagers race down the 400 foot drop in 30 seconds, then pick their way back up over the next hour! Nearly every day is finished off with ice cream from either the Pine Cone or Cherry Republic. Of course there are some rainy days but those are generally answered with a trip to the Cottage Book Store for more books.

We plan our year around our time at Glen Lake which happens the first two weeks of August. We fanatasize every year about buying our own place up there, but nothing compares to our Brookhaven Cabins, so we just put our deposit down as we roll out of town and say “See ya next year!”

It really is the Simple Life!

This is one super charming cottage that makes a perfect couple or small family getaway on placid Bass Lake just outside of Traverse City. Enjoy the delightful details in this cozy cottage. Featuring 2 bedrooms and one bath with 1 Queen in loft bedroom, 2 Twin lower level and areo bed. Beautiful view from the living room of the lake. Walk out to the beach and enjoy firepit, dock, kayak, picninc table and gas grill. Sunrise view. Take the kayak ou for a lazy paddle across the lake. Bring your favorite books and wine and chill out for the best getaway you ever had! Dish TV-TV/DVD/VCR/Stereo/CD player. No cable.Washer dryer. No air conditioning but ceiling fans, table fans and the lake breezes keep it comfortable. Linens included. Your well mannered cat or dog is welcome. Wood swing for two. No Phone. No Smoking. You will want to make this your summer or fall cottage destination. Call for fall specials.

Summer 09 guest comment: This cottage is ideal for two or three people. We were three, my wife and I, and our daughter. So sharing a single bathroom was not an issue. What really makes the place special are all the fishing and hunting decorations. Right out of a magazine. And the use of the kayaks was very much appreciated. The weather was perfect for end of summer. The morning kayak trips on the calm and misty lake at sunrise were wonderful.

My only suggestion would be to create a pathway from the front driveway to the main door, which is on the side of the house, and trim the tree branches along that path. If you have a picture in your mind of the perfect little lake cottage, this is it.
