The latest buzz word in travel is “slow travel”. What actually is it? Slow travel is about soaking up the surroundings you are in, at a leisurely pace instead of running from one thing to another. Having a vacation that leaves you feeling refreshed instead of more exhausted than when you started. It doesn’t mean you should skip the anticipated highlights of your trip, but taking the time to experience the little things your vacation is less like touristy travel. How can you make your own slow travel vacation? Rent your own cottage or home. Get up in the morning to your own space not shared with everyone in a hotel. Sit on the deck and watch the sun rise, breath in the fresh air, savor a cup of coffee. Have a slow breakfast. Start your day in the middle of the afternoon. Take in your surroundings. Plan a day of visiting small local shops, visit mom and pop diners, sit in a park and people watch.

In our hurried world slowing down is often one of the hardest things to do. It is worth the effort though. Coming back to the grind may just be a little less grinding after your relaxing slow vacation.
Let Visit Up North Vacaton Rentals assist you in planning you next trip. Call us at 800-901-8922.

For a fun filled weekend head to Traverse City-the city by the Bay! This welcoming waterfront community has it all. 5 reasons to go now:

You want to reconnect with nature

For those looking to escape the bustle of busy city life, this area boasts wide open spaces of lush areas of natural beauty, big blue water, twinkling starry nights and cool fresh air. Climb the Sleeping Bear Dune, hike the Boardman River natural area, rent a bike and tour on the Tart Trail. These are just a few of the opportunities to reconnect with nature. At the end of the day you will feel relaxed, stress free ready for the next exciting adventure.

Explore your artistic side

The Traverse City and surrounding area is home to more than 35 art galleries. Featuring local and national artists you will be more than inspired by the creative force that lives in this community. Art festivals are featured at different times of the year in each small waterfront village thru the fall months. Need to be even more inspired? Take one of the many one and two day art workshops. Visit www.artcentertraversecity.com for more information.

You want to drink wine

Traverse City & the surrounding area are home to 24 wineries and counting. The wines of this area are rivaling some of the countries most tasteful wines. You will not be disappointed and surely will bring home a bottle or two of one of the many delicious wines. Start your wine journey on Old Mission Peninsula. Currently hosting 7 wineries make sure to visit them all. 2 Lads Winery, Chateau Chantal, Bowers Harbor and Peninsula Cellars to name a few. Enjoy free tours and tastings!

After your tour of Old Mission travel over to Leelanau Peninsula. Here you will enjoy 17 wineries. Also offering free tours and tastings you will not be disappointed when sampling the tasty nectar of the vines. Your tour takes you along the M-22 corridor along Grand Traverse Bay. Your first stop heading north will be Shady Lanes Winery featuring excellent reislings and chardonnays. Right down the road visit Willow Vineyards, Ciccone Wineries (yes Madonnas Dad owns this) L.Mawby, Chateau Leelanau and Black Star Farms. Continue north to visit the 12 other wineries waiting for your visit.

Unleash you wild side

After enjoying all the day time fun it is time to put on your party shoes and enjoy a little night life. Park you car downtown and walk to the many venues that offer something different behind every door. North Peak Brewery offers casual dining and micro brews. Favored by many locals the weekend finds standing room only but is worth the wait. Union Street Station & Shimmers offer music and dancing. Lil Bo’s and Mackinaw Brewery also offer a little local flare to hang out and meet a new friend. Check local listings to see where live music and specials are in this great town.

The process for renting a vacation home differs from booking a hotel room. One of the many benefits is working with a property management company that has the expertise to make staying at a cottage or home headache free. Their personal interest in your stay and knowledge of the property are far beyond that of a hotel reservation center! This helps you make the best choice for you and your family. Let Visit Up North Vacation Rentals friendly staff start helping you today… it’s absolutely worth it!

Spend less, travel more</em
Priced between 50 and 80 percent less per square foot than the average hotel room in popular destinations, vacation rentals offer real value.

Room to relax
Say goodbye to the small hotel room. Our average vacation rental is 1800 sq. ft

Privacy
No hotel staff to disturb you, and plenty of private space for spending family-time together.

The kitchen is always open
Dine in with the kids or dine out on the town. Free yourself from vending machines and expensive room service. Stock up on local fresh farm goods and fresh local products.

Bring the dog
Many vacation rentals are pet friendly and offer dog beds, dog runs, and more so your best friend will feel right at home. No more putting your furry friend in a kennel.

Grand Traverse Bay is located off Lake Michigan in Northern Michigan. The bay is 32 miles long, 10 miles wide, and up to 620 feet deep in spots. It is divided into two arms by the Old Mission Peninsula which is divided into East and West Grand Traverse Bay.
Traverse City is situated at the south end of the bay where the Boardman River empties into the west arm. Cherry orchards line the bay region, giving rise to Traverse City’s claim to be the Cherry Capital of the World. Several nationally known companies offer cherry-based products made with Northern Michigan tart cherries including Traverse Bay Farms, Cherry Central, Fruit Advantage, American Spoon and Cherry Republic.

The East Arm of Grand Traverse Bay from the east, with the Old Mission Peninsula in the background. Hills of the Leelanau Peninsula are faintly visible on the horizon. The Grand Traverse Bay includes several important smaller bays: Northport Bay, Suttons Bay, Omena Bay, Bowers Harbor, and Old Mission Bay. Northport Bay, located at the northwest corner of Grand Traverse Bay is about 10 miles (16 km) long and 4 miles (6.4 km) wide. Northport Bay open to the east, except inside the arms at each end, with the Leelanau Peninsula on the West side. There are several shoals in Northport Bay marked by buoys. Bellows Island, a low gravel island covered by shrubs and located near the middle of Northport Bay, is owned by the Nature Conservancy; it is primarily known as a bird rookery, and is sometimes locally called Gull Island.
Besides cherries, the surrounding countryside produces grapes and is one of the centers of the Michigan wine industry. Known for its shimmering blue water and golden sand beaches, the Grand Traverse Bay region is a popular vacation destination.
